No this a very familiar geometric shape. Like a triangle or octagon (it's not either of these). Astronomers have known about it for 20 years, but I only heard about this about a month ago. So I think it's probably not commonly known.

after a bit of wikipedia-ing i think i have the answer:

i believe it is the hexagonal formation of clouds found on saturn

the photo said this below it:
North polar hexagonal cloud feature, discovered by Voyager 1 and confirmed in 2006 by Cassini.

and the link is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturn

Absolutely correct. There's a short video of it rotating on NASA's site. http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/cassini/multimedia/pia09187.html

Your question.

I had 2 questions on page one. The first one was not valid because Sol's question had not yet been correctly answered. Proxima Centauri would have been the correct answer though.

When atoms are packed into a cubic shape there are varying degrees of efficiency in their structure. List the three following types in order of the total number of atoms that are in each cube type. The types are, Cubic, Face Centred Cubic and Body Centred Cubic.

Yikes! when my son gets home from church, I'll get him to answer it. He plans on majoring in chemical engineering when he graduates high school.

(yes I'm Very proud of my son. He's only 17 years old and already knows what he wants as his career)

Never mind, he didn't know. I guess his 2 years of high school chemistry didn't cover this. I'll let someone else answer this--this kind of stuff is way out of my league. I wouldn't even know where to start googling this question.

On a scale of 1-10, 1 being an elementary question and 10 being Sol's first question, I'd say this is an 11 lol.

Alf

I get the feeling that you were guessing but I never said that you couldn't guess. It's your turn to post a question.

Jvstice

If your son had learned this in High School I would have been impressed. I learned this this year in 1st Year Chemistry at Uni.
